Welcome to Project ED3N, the doors are waiting for you. Project ED3N is a Sci-fi Horror game in which the player is tasked with helping a mysterious voice to navigate the facility and hopefully survive the carnage. The game takes place 2546 years after humanity has gone extinct. The outside world has been eradicated and nearly unlivable, nearly. A contingency plan was put in place to make sure that humanity still survived, the ED3N Project. A self-sustaining facility capable of replicating humans endlessly with no faults and no human error. Well, that’s what was said in any case, within ED3N there’s a very different tale. The facility is swarming with errors. Primarily, the system wasn’t built to last over 1000 years, furthermore, the AI has had some problems in replicating a perfect human, the notion that it must be the best in all aspects has somehow found itself embedded into the Ai’s core program and experiments have broken out of there confinements. The whole facility is a mess.Y

Youplay as Aya, one of many who has woken up in ED3N. Suffering through the facility’s malfunctions, unsure of what to do, your only goal is to stay alive in the facility that’s doing its best to kill you.

When creating ED3N, I only had the idea of, I want to build a horror game, I didn’t know where to begin this was the first time I had created a game inside the unreal engine and taught myself how to use it through a lot of trial and error. As I started going through more and more tutorials an outline began to form, I wanted to create a space that reflected the current feelings of confinement within this year.  The feelings surrounding Covid-19, that it’s the end of the world, you’re stuck inside simply wanting to leave and the only thing you can communicate with is a dubious voice on the other side of a screen. All these things brought me inspiration when working with E3EN. Then I thought, well how could we make this have more symbolism, this can’t be a long story but what can we pack into it with the timeframe we have. Using themes, quotes and names from Christianity we developed our ideas further and merged basic elements into the facility. A good example being the year 2546 referencing Matthew 25:46 a passage that talks about eternal life and punishment. The idea that the world is cyclical, that in the beginning certain events play out and at the end, the same events play time and time again. These are concepts that have stuck with me for a long time and with my first large freeform project like this, I almost needed to incorporate them into the project itself. Telling stories, playing with concepts and the medium, are all things that matter and as a storyteller, I find it’s more important now than ever to do something you like, learn something interesting and change.
